Features
Everything a pro diagnostics tool does — without the pro price tag.
Built on the battle-tested open-source kw1281test protocol engine by gmenounos, wrapped in a clean, dark interface for your phone.
Real-time dashboard
Live RPM, speed, coolant temperature, battery voltage and more — animated on realistic vector gauges, mapped by measurement unit. A warning-light strip watches battery, oil, temperature and brakes.
1,500+ codes
Fault codes that make sense
Read and clear codes with plain-language descriptions — VW P1xxx, generic P0xxx and small VAG codes — plus freeze-frame data and live search.
Telemetry & live graphs
Pick the sensors you care about and watch them plotted live — coolant, boost, air flow, throttle and more, straight off the K-line.
KWP2000 modules (KW 2027)
Modules that answer with KW 2027 — such as the ABS unit on a Golf 4 — get their own read and clear path in Pro mode, with the diagnostic session opened for you.
3 at once
Measuring blocks — live
Watch up to three measuring groups side by side in real time, each in its own value table, updated over a single connection every few seconds.
Connects the right way, by itself
The app wakes the module, tries the baud rates in order (10400, 9600, 4800) and follows a controller that redirects you to another address — nothing to configure by hand.
Raw command terminal
Advanced users get a real console: choose the USB adapter, send a raw hex block to the module, and keep quick actions — Ident, read faults, clear faults — one tap away.
Simulator & session logs
A built-in, realistic car simulator to explore the app before you plug anything in — and every session is auto-saved to a timestamped log file.
Screens
The whole app, screen by screen
Real screenshots from the Android app — dark, calm and information-dense, like a proper diagnostics tool should be.
Live dashboardRPM, speed, coolant and battery voltage on phone-sized gauges, refreshed in real time.
Fault codes in plain languageRead and clear codes, search the whole list and see what each one actually means.
Telemetry & graphsPick the sensors you care about and watch them plotted live while you drive.
Three measuring groups at onceEach group streams into its own value table over a single K-line connection.
Pro modeModule identity, KWP2000 controllers such as ABS (KW 2027) and data saving, all in one place.
Terminal, logs & simulatorPick your adapter, run raw commands and keep every session as a timestamped log file.
Compatibility
Classic VW Group, on the K-line
KW1281 is the VAG K-line protocol — VW Group cars from the late 1980s through the mid-2000s, talking over one data line through either the 2×2 connector or an early 16-pin OBD2 socket (pin 7 = K-line).
Fit check
Type your car — see if it's covered
Model and year is enough: “Passat 1995”, “Golf 4”, “Audi A4 B5”, “Octavia 2001”.

Some models changed protocol mid-generation — late Golf IV years, for example, moved to KWP2000, others to CAN. When in doubt, the surest test is a quick ReadIdent on the address you're after. No reply usually means CAN.
These cars use one data line (K-line; the oldest also wake via an L-line) and either the 2×2 connector or an early 16-pin OBD2 port with pin 7 live. Reading them needs the same dedicated software as VCDS-Lite or classic VAG-COM — generic ELM327-based OBD2 scanners usually can't, because they expect a standard ISO/OBD2 handshake that old VAG modules never spoke. Pin7 Diagnostics speaks that same KW1281 language.
Is my car on the list?
Quick three-point check before you buy:
Your car is VW, Audi, SEAT or Škoda built roughly 1989–2006.
Your OBD socket has pin 7 (K-line) populated.
You're on Android 8.0+ (phone or tablet).
Driving a newer CAN-bus car? Pin7 Diagnostics currently covers K-line (KW1281) cars built roughly 1989–2006 — CAN-bus support is planned for a future update.
Not a VW Group car? Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Ford and the Japanese brands speak a different protocol on the same K-line, so this app cannot read them — even though pin 7 is live. Porsche 986/996 in particular speaks KWP2000/ISO 9141, not KW1281.
Driving an older VW — Passat B3/B4, Golf II/III, Jetta, Corrado (~1989–1996)? Those cars use the 2×2 connector instead of the 16-pin OBD socket. The protocol is the same KW1281 — you only need a VAG 2×2 → OBD-II adapter.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Is my car supported?
Any VW Group car with K-line diagnostics (OBD pin 7 or the older 2×2 connector) — roughly VW Golf III/IV, Passat B3/B4/B5, Polo 6N, Audi 80, 100, A4 B5/B6, A6 C4/C5, A3 8L, SEAT Ibiza 6K, León 1M and Škoda Octavia 1U, Fabia 6Y and similar from the late 1980s–2000s. Not sure? Try a quick ReadIdent on the engine address — a silent bus usually means your car talks CAN instead.
Does it work on Porsche, BMW, Mercedes or other non-VW cars?
No — and that is a protocol limit. KW1281 is the Volkswagen Group's own protocol, so it only exists on VW, Audi, SEAT and Škoda. Other makes sometimes use the very same K-line on OBD pin 7, but a different language on top of it: Porsche speaks ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230 (KWP2000), so a 986 Boxster or 996 911 answers nothing the app understands, while BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Ford, Renault and the Japanese brands each have their own. If you try one of those cars, the app just reports that the controller did not wake up — which is exactly what should happen. Pin7 Diagnostics is a VW Group tool, and we would rather say that plainly than sell it to you for a car it cannot help with.
What about older VWs like Passat B3/B4 with the 2×2 connector?
Yes, those work — the protocol is the same KW1281, only the plug is different. Older VWs (roughly 1989–1996: Passat B3 and early B4, Golf II/III, Jetta, Corrado) have a 2×2 data link connector — two small blocks, one for the K-line, the other for power and ground — instead of the 16-pin OBD-II socket. KW1281 speaks through it exactly the same way, so a VAG 2×2 → OBD-II adapter (a few euros) is all that's needed. Two honest caveats: the very earliest B3s (before ~1989) may only support blink-code diagnostics with no K-line at all, and an immobilizer (address 25) usually doesn't exist on these cars — a silent controller there is expected, not a fault.
How do I pay?
Sales are opening soon. Nothing is charged anywhere on this site today — we are setting up worldwide payments (bank links and card) so that ordering the app works the same from Estonia or anywhere else. Until then the free demo is available without any code, and you can leave us your e-mail to be told the moment the shop opens.
Do I need to install anything?
Android: download the APK and tap it — Android asks once to allow installs from your browser or file manager. No root, no extra apps, nothing else to install.
Is this the “real” KW1281 protocol, or a toy?
The real one. Pin7 Diagnostics wraps the battle-tested open-source kw1281test engine by gmenounos — the same tool known in VW forums — including our enhanced build that reads several measuring groups over a single connection. The GUI builds the commands, but the protocol logic is the proven engine underneath.
Android warns about an unknown app.
That's normal for small independent software — it isn't code-signed (signing certificates are expensive). Tap Install anyway or allow installs from this source. Play Protect still scans the file — and if you prefer, run it once through VirusTotal yourself.
Can it do more than read codes?
Yes. Beyond fault codes you get live measuring blocks (up to three groups at once), live telemetry graphs, KWP2000 modules such as ABS in Pro mode and a raw terminal for deeper commands. Clearing codes asks for confirmation, and every session is written to a log file you can share.
What about updates, refunds and licences?
The €10 +VAT price is a one-time purchase and includes future updates. The licence covers personal use on your own vehicles — get in touch if you need workshop or commercial use. Not sure whether your car is compatible before buying? Ask first, or explore the app in the built-in simulator before you spend anything.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes. The demo is the same app with the paid parts locked: reading fault codes with 1,500+ plain-language descriptions, identifiers, coding and reading adaptation values are free, while live data (gauges, graphs, 3-group measuring), memory reading, clearing fault codes, saving and logging in need the full version (€10 +VAT, one time). The built-in simulator ships in both versions, so you can try it without a car.
Does it need internet or an account?
No. Install it once and it works completely offline — handy in a garage with no signal. There is no account, no login and no ads, and nothing leaves your phone.
Will the app work on my phone?
If your phone runs Android 8.0 or newer (nearly every phone since ~2016), the app will run on it. No root, no custom ROM, and no internet connection is needed once the app is installed — which is handy in a garage with no signal.
